Science-based Dog Trainers

Foresight Dog training was founded by Sydney Dog Trainer ‘Tresilla’. Tresilla has more than 30 years of experience in dog training and behaviour. Having studied science at the tertiary level (4 years of Bachelor of Pharmacy, 1 year of Bachelor of Animal Veterinary Bioscience at Sydney University and 1 year of Bachelor of Animal Science at Western Sydney University), her dog training methods are evidence-based and always evolving based on the latest scientific research in animal behaviour, cognition and learning.

Specialising in Calmness and Engagement

Having worked with reactive, aggressive, anxious and hyperactive dogs; Tresilla recognises the importance of training calmness in puppies and dogs. She specialises in teaching her clients how to increase calmness in their dogs through Foresight Dog Training solutions and the implementation of her calmness training protocol. Similarly, she attributes her success in training dogs to award-winning levels in obedience training, to her ability to work out what motivates individual dogs and breeds – she then uses this in forming a training plan and building engagement.

An active critical thinker from her science studies, Tresilla has also been immersed in the world of dogs for the past 37 years. She was born into a family that showed, bred and raised English Staffordshire Bull Terriers.

Tresilla’s experience includes training and handling many dogs to their Australian Championship; from the age of 7 till 17 years of age competing in Junior Handlers qualifying and placing in the the state finals on various occasions; training for and achieving the obedience title of Companion Dog (CD); agility club training; study and implementation of DNA testing to improve dog health, traits and type; in-house dog breeding and puppy raising for therapy dog training roles and companionship; puppy training expert; advocate for raw dog foods; experienced dog groomer; dog behaviourist with success in creating & implementing dog behaviour modification plans.

Dog behaviour, genetics and breeders

Having bred, raised, trained and handled various small, medium and big dog breeds; Tresilla understands the importance of considering all the factors that influence dog behaviour. She is particularly passionate about the influence of canine genetics on behaviour, having observed first-hand how behaviour traits are carried through generations. Similarly, it’s become apparent that many breeders overlook the temperament and behaviour problems of their breeding dogs. This results in breeders producing dogs that are prone to separation anxiety, reactivity, aggression, hyperactivity, resource guarding, barking etc.

Furthermore, some dog breeders don’t provide their puppies with adequate socialisation and enrichment opportunities from 0-8 weeks of age. Such puppies miss out on life experiences and training during this critical window of opportunity. Many puppies are also born in puppy farms, where they are exposed to stress hormones throughout their mother’s pregnancy and raised under traumatising circumstances. Many new puppy owners, blindly buy from pet shops and breeding facilities without meeting the parents of their pup or seeing the conditions in which they were raised. Studies have shown that puppies raised in puppy farms, are more likely to have behaviour problems at maturity and have shorter lifespans.

The goal should be to keep more puppies and adult dogs in their homes. Helping families find the best dog for their lifestyle and educating puppy buyers on what to look for when buying a puppy is the first step. Believing that dogs should be valued collaborators in the training process, Tresilla is experienced in determining what motivates our furry friends. Through games based training, she taps into their behavioural traits and can identify what life skills the dog needs.
