Conclusion – Best Dog Names

top dog names

Many dog owners use their dog’s name when they want their dog to come to them. But why do so many dogs ignore their owners when they hear their name being called? Our dog trainer’s top tip; whatever dog name you decide on, never use your pup’s name when you’re correcting them for bad behaviour. Only use your dog’s name to get their attention when it will have a positive association attached to it for your dog. For example when you bring your new puppy home, whenever you say their name, feed them a treat or praise them heavily for offering you their attention.

This will build value for the name you have chosen and truly make it the best dog name for your pup, because they also see the value in it. Conversely, saying your dog’s name and reprimanding them for toileting in the house will create a negative association to the name and your dog is unlikely to respond to the sound of their name in the future.
